I will have to go backward in this story so we can go forward and tell the tale...
The kid's school does a yearly fundraiser through Papa John's Pizza where one night they open up the sales so that a percentage of the profits and all tips go toward the school. The best part... the teachers deliver the pizzas! The kids eagerly anticipate this for days in advance and the day of the event, they get home ready to order right then. Last week the big night came and we ordered at a few minutes after 5pm (5-7:30 is the time frame). The pizza arrived at 6:45, which although late, was to be expected because almost every family participates. The kids had their noses pressed against the front door window and one of them says, "mom, it's a man teacher". I'm thinking, "OK ,well, cool, there is only one man teacher in the whole school, and we got him". I'm a bit disappointed since they were expecting one of their teachers but no biggie. As I open the door, I realize it isn't him, it's the pizza boy. When the rest of the kids realized this, they were in tears... literally. Crying, sobbing..."they forgot us". This wasn't a bratty kind of crying, this was all out sadness and disappointment for days worth of anticipation. And if that wasn't enough, after calming everyone down, they were the wrong pizzas. As you can imagine 5, 6 and 8 year old kids don't do "the fixin's". The night was a disaster and mom had to come up with something quick at 7pm after spending $40 on dinner. That was the going backward part... here is where the story takes a turn.
As all the kids went to school the next day and sat at circle time to giddely tell of which teacher delivered their pizza, my kids sadly told of their night. Emma and Kate, still distraught, made quite an impression because I received a note from their teachers saying how very sorry they were that the evening turned out so badly and how thankful they were for our participation. Then they asked if they could come by for a few minutes to spend some special time with the kids since they didn't get their night with their teacher. Wow! Talk about teachers going the extra mile! This just doesn't happen anymore.
So Ms. Owen and Ms. Burton stopped by tonight and I just have to thank God and thank them for such beautiful, giving hearts. The kids will remember this always and this mom is so grateful for the these wonderful angels here on earth.
